About us
OCH VEY bring you seditious, joyful klezmer music from the revolutionary yiddishland of yore. We take the traditional folk music of Eastern European Jews and fuse it with a punchy backline. Our gigs promise a generous dose of high octane, dance inducing, punk infused klezmer, plugged in and amped up. Expect soaring clarinet solos, wailing fiddle, distorted guitar, pounding drums, Britney-inspired accordion, and a large quantity of bass. The music means a lot to us, it's a way of connecting to our roots and culture, making friends, and having fun. You might laugh, you might cry, and you'll definitely dance.
We've played protests, parties, and picket lines (but might still stretch to your wedding or bar mitzvah). We've gigged in the cold (Rhyze mushroom farm), the sun (Scottish anarcho-folk festival), underground (Bannerman's) and with the dead (Forest Cafe, RIP).
We are:
Ella - violin
Scot - bass
Hamish - percussion/vocals
Jess - accordion/vocals
Benji - guitar/mandolin/vocals
Leila - clarinet
